Without a High Performance Backend, Nextcloud Talk is a peer-to-peer tool — fine for two or three people, sluggish from about four participants on. Our Talk HPB fixes that: video streams run through a dedicated backend in Germany, and your calls stay stable — with up to 50 concurrent Talk users. Works with any Nextcloud: hosted by us, hosted elsewhere, or running on your own server.
What is this?
By default, Nextcloud Talk connects participants peer-to-peer: every client sends its video to every other client individually. With two or three people that works fine — with more, the load on every device and every connection climbs fast, and video and audio start to stutter. That's why Nextcloud itself recommends a High Performance Backend (HPB) for larger calls.
The HPB flips the principle: every participant sends their video once to the backend, which distributes the streams to everyone else. The load sits on our server instead of your devices — and suddenly calls with 20, 30 or 50 people are no problem.
Our Talk HPB is a hosted package: we run the signaling backend and streaming infrastructure in Germany, you get the credentials and enter them in your Nextcloud's Talk settings. It works with any Nextcloud — whether it runs with us, with another provider, or on your own box in the basement.

You don't have to be a xaweho customer: the HPB plugs into any Nextcloud, self-hosted ones included. You get a URL and a shared secret, enter both in the Talk settings, done.
Signaling and video streams run through our infrastructure in Germany — not through some anonymous cloud service somewhere. For clubs, practices and companies with GDPR obligations, that's a tangible argument.
A self-run HPB means: signaling server, NAT traversal, TLS, updates — and debugging whenever a participant sits behind a strict firewall. You can do all that. For €10 a month, you can also not.
Setup
Order the Talk HPB in the customer center — one plan, €10/month per server.
We send you the backend URL and the shared secret for your Nextcloud.
In your Nextcloud, go to Settings → Talk and enter the backend URL and shared secret. A step-by-step guide is included. If your Nextcloud runs as a Nextcloud Server with us, we handle this step entirely.
One quick test call, done. From now on your Talk calls run through the backend — stable even with large groups.
