Nextcloud Talk Recording

The recording backend for Nextcloud Talk — video, audio and screen shares, as much as you want. €14.90/month per Nextcloud, the files land in your cloud.

Nextcloud Talk can record conferences — but only with its own recording backend, and hardly anyone runs one on the side. Ours sits in Germany: you record as much as you want, for every user of your Nextcloud, and the finished file lands right in your cloud — nothing stays with us. Works with any Nextcloud that has a Talk HPB.

  • Record without limits — for all users, one recording at a time
  • €14.90 per month and Nextcloud — that's the whole price
  • Files land in your Nextcloud — nothing stays with us

What is this?

What is the recording backend — and why does Talk need one?

Nextcloud Talk doesn't record conferences in the browser but server-side: a dedicated recording server joins the call invisibly and captures video and audio of whoever is speaking — screen shares included. That's exactly the server we run for you, in Germany.

The finished recording is uploaded to your Nextcloud as a video file, into the Talk/Recordings folder. After that, nothing stays with us — the file is yours, lives with you and follows your sharing rules.

The prerequisite is a Talk HPB — ours for €10/month or your own. The recording backend is connected the same way as the HPB: enter server address and shared secret in the Talk settings. That works with any Nextcloud — hosted by us, by another provider, or on your own server.

What sets us apart

Recording without fine print.

Vorteil 01

One price, no tiers.

€14.90 per month and Nextcloud — that's the entire plan. No per-user billing, no minute packages, no hour quotas. Whether you record once a month or every day changes nothing about the price.

Vorteil 02

Your recordings belong to you.

The recording server uploads the finished file straight into your Nextcloud — after that, nothing stays with us. Who gets to see the recording is decided by your sharing rules, not by us.

Vorteil 03

For any Nextcloud, not just ours.

You don't have to be a xaweho customer: the recording backend plugs into any Nextcloud with a Talk HPB — your own HPB included. Enter server address and shared secret, done.

Vorteil 04

Consent built in.

Talk can ask every participant to consent to the recording before the call starts — a switch in the settings. Together with the recording server in Germany, that's the clean foundation for boards, practices and anyone with GDPR obligations.

Setup

Four steps to your first recording.

  1. 1

    Order

Order Talk Recording in the customer center — one plan, €14.90/month per Nextcloud. No HPB yet? That's available as its own product.

  2. 2

    Receive credentials

You get the server address and the shared secret for your recording backend from us.

  3. 3

    Enter it in Talk

In your Nextcloud under Settings → Talk, add the recording backend with server address and shared secret. If your Nextcloud runs as a Nextcloud Server with us, we handle this step completely; on Nextcloud Hosting, open a ticket first.

  4. 4

    Record

Click start recording in the Talk call. After you stop, the server processes the recording and uploads it into your Nextcloud's Talk/Recordings folder.

Frequently asked questions

What does "one recording at a time" mean?
Per booked recording backend, exactly one recording runs in parallel. If two conferences happen at the same time, the second one can only record once the first has finished. One after another, you can record as many calls as you like — at no extra charge.
Where do the recordings live?
In your Nextcloud, in the Talk/Recordings folder. The recording server uploads the finished file there — afterwards, nothing stays with us. Share, move, delete: like any other file in your cloud.
Do I need an HPB?
Yes. Recording requires a Talk High Performance Backend — either our Talk HPB for €10/month or one you already run yourself. HPB and recording together cost €24.90/month with us.
Does this work with my own Nextcloud or my own HPB?
Yes, with both. The recording backend works with any Nextcloud — with us, with another provider, or self-hosted — and also with an HPB that isn't ours. You enter server address and shared secret in the Talk settings; if you're unsure whether your setup qualifies, open a ticket before ordering.
Do I get a transcript or a summary?
Talk can transcribe and summarize recordings automatically afterwards — provided a speech-to-text and a text provider are set up in your Nextcloud. Which providers those are is up to you; recording itself works entirely without AI.
Do participants have to consent?
Talk ships a built-in prompt for that: when enabled, every participant has to consent to the recording before the call starts. We recommend switching it on — whether it's mandatory in your case depends on your legal context; when in doubt, settle that with your data-protection counsel.
What exactly gets recorded?
Video and audio of whoever is speaking, plus shared screens — the way Talk presents the conference to participants. Chat isn't part of the recording; it's in Talk anyway.

Keep the conference instead of taking notes.

Order the recording, enter the credentials in Talk, record — the file ends up in your Nextcloud. Not sure your setup qualifies? Open a ticket first.
