What is this?
What is the Euro-Office Document Server — and who is it for?
Euro-Office is the new sovereign office suite from Europe, backed by heavyweights like Nextcloud, IONOS, XWiki and OpenProject. Technically it builds on a proven engine deployed millions of times — that's where the excellent DOCX/XLSX/PPTX compatibility comes from, something young projects usually can't offer. And it is fully open source: no connection licenses, no editions, no fine print.
The Document Server is the server component behind the browser office: when you click a Word document in Nextcloud or Confluence and the editor opens, it converts documents in the background, syncs the edits of multiple users and writes the result back. With us: dedicated per customer, at our Düsseldorf location, with full performance.
When do you need this? Euro-Office is already pre-installed in our Nextcloud plans and on the Nextcloud Server — no extra charge, and enough for most people. A dedicated server of your own pays off once many people regularly edit at the same time, performance has to be predictable, or you want to plug Euro-Office into your own platform — Confluence, Mattermost, your own web app via REST API.

Open source
Why no license? Because there is none.
Euro-Office is fully open source — backed by a European consortium around Nextcloud, IONOS, XWiki and OpenProject. There is no limited community edition and no commercial full version, just one suite for everyone. The editor numbers on our plans are therefore not license limits but hardware guidelines: they tell you how many concurrent editors each machine serves smoothly. You only pay for the server.
More than 200 editors or a special setup?
For larger installations — distributed setups with external PostgreSQL/Redis/RabbitMQ, Kubernetes deployments, several hundred concurrent editors — talk to us. Since no license tiers get in the way, sizing is purely a hardware question.

The Document Server and your application talk via signed JWT tokens — no way for outsiders to pull documents off your server. We enable it by default; you don't have to configure anything.

- ! No server access for you. Fully managed means: no SSH, no root. Configuration wishes beyond the standard connectors are handled via ticket — billed by time, €25/15 min during office hours.
- ! No custom domain. Always yourname.office.xaweho-host.de. Since the Document Server disappears behind the platform (Nextcloud, Confluence) for end users, the URL is rarely visible anyway.
- ! No off-the-shelf cluster setup. For several hundred concurrent editors or distributed PostgreSQL/Redis/RabbitMQ setups you need a custom configuration — on request, with its own price.
- ! No vendor support contract. Euro-Office is an open-source project — there is no commercial vendor support to buy. What is Euro-Office anyway — and who is behind it?

The project's goal: a European browser office suite entirely without license costs — developed by the community, carried by major European providers.
Really no license? Where's the catch?
There is none. Euro-Office has no limited community edition and no paid full version — there is exactly one suite, for everyone, open source. The editor numbers on our plans are hardware guidelines, not license limits. What you pay us for is operations: dedicated hardware, setup, updates, monitoring, backups.
Euro-Office or OnlyOffice — which one do I pick?
Both are available from us, both deliver excellent MS Office compatibility — Euro-Office builds on the same proven engine. Pick Euro-Office if you want to run without license costs and with European backing. Pick OnlyOffice if you want official vendor support with a commercial license or your organization requires it. Not sure? Open a ticket with three sentences about your use case.
What exactly does "concurrent editor" mean?
A person who currently has a document open in the editor (whether they're actively typing or just reading). Logged-in users without an open document don't count. Example: a club with 100 members of whom typically 8 edit at the same time — the Solo plan is plenty.
Isn't Euro-Office already included in your Nextcloud plans?
Yes — Euro-Office comes pre-installed in Nextcloud Hosting and on the Nextcloud Server, at no extra charge. For most people that's enough. You need the dedicated server here when many people edit at the same time, performance has to be predictable, or you want to connect a platform other than Nextcloud.
Can I use Euro-Office standalone, without a Nextcloud from you?
Yes. The Document Server is a standalone product — you can run it with any platform that has a matching connector (Nextcloud, Confluence, Mattermost and others) or attach it to your own app via REST API. No Nextcloud contract with us required.
How fast is the server ready?
Usually within up to 24 hours. Since no license has to be issued, there are no further waiting times — you get an email as soon as everything is live.
What does "fully managed" mean in practice?
You have no SSH or root access. We take care of: setup, Euro-Office updates, security patches, reverse-proxy configuration, JWT key management, TLS certificates, hardware maintenance, backup snapshots. You take care of: connecting your platform (we help) and editing documents.
How stable is such a young project?
The engine underneath is anything but young — it has been running in production millions of times over for years, including with us. What's new is the European backing, and with Nextcloud, IONOS, XWiki and OpenProject that backing is broad. We run Euro-Office in all our Nextcloud plans ourselves and don't pass on anything we don't use daily.
Which operating systems/versions do you ship?
We install the Euro-Office Document Server on a Linux base tuned by us (AlmaLinux 10 or Ubuntu 24.04 LTS). The version is always a current stable release — we announce bigger updates with a maintenance window.
What if I use a platform that's not on your list?
Ask us. Euro-Office speaks the established document-server interfaces, and the REST API allows custom integrations. Worst case, we build the connector together with you — that's custom work at our hands-on rate (€25/15 min).
