Push mail to your phone, calendars and contacts in sync — everything email has to do today, without the data vacuum of the big free mail providers. If you ever want your own domain, you switch over to Mailhosting Solo — the mailbox moves with you.

  • Your own address under @postfach.re — lean and easy to remember
  • Mail, calendars, contacts in sync on every device (IMAP, CalDAV, CardDAV)
  • Minimal logging — no data mining, no tracking
  • Three sizes: 10, 25 or 100 GB · 30-day money-back

What is this?

Email without your own domain — the no-nonsense alternative to GMX, Web.de and freenet.

xaweho Postfach is one email address under you@postfach.re — done. No “free, but with ad banners”, no premium surcharge for calendar sync, no AI analyzing your email. For 99 cents a month you get exactly what a modern email address is supposed to deliver: receiving, sending, in sync on every device, calendars, contacts. Nothing more — but nothing less either.

We run the same Mailcow setup as for our mail hosting product. Which means: DKIM, SPF and DMARC are configured correctly, the spam filter is multi-stage, the reputation actively maintained. Your mail lands where it should — not in your recipients' spam folders. With the free mail providers, that's not a given.

If you ever decide “now I do want my own domain after all”, you switch to Mailhosting Solo with one click. The mailbox moves with you, your old @postfach.re address keeps running as an alias — no address break, no migration.

Features

Ten things other free mail providers charge extra for — standard here.

Push mail, calendars, contacts, spam filter, 2FA, migration. All included in the 99-cent plan.

In sync on every device

IMAP keeps your mail in sync on iPhone, Android and desktop — read is read, everywhere. Calendars and contacts come along via CalDAV and CardDAV. At the free mail providers, even that is often a paid premium extra. Here: included.

Calendars, contacts, tasks

Full groupware: CalDAV calendars, CardDAV address book, tasks with due dates. Syncs natively with iPhone, Mac, Outlook, Thunderbird, Android — no third-party app needed.

Minimal logging — what we don't have, nobody can mine

We log as little as possible. Traffic logs live fleetingly in RAM and are never stored persistently. In concrete terms: we can't fish through old mail logs, because they don't exist. Mailbox contents sit on encrypted storage, of course — the mail itself is supposed to arrive.

DKIM, SPF, DMARC, MTA-STS — automatic

The four pillars of modern mail authentication — configured correctly out of the box. Your mail is cryptographically signed, receiving servers recognize it as genuine. We actively maintain the @postfach.re domain's reputation — you don't land in the spam folder.

A spam filter that gets better

Multi-stage filter with Bayes self-learning, greylisting, DNSBL checks, DMARC validation, URL reputation. The filter learns your preferences per mailbox. A quarantine area for borderline cases — you decide what counts as spam.

App passwords for every client

Instead of spreading your main password across ten mail clients, you give each device its own app password. Lost your phone? Revoke that one password — the other clients keep running. Clean separation.

Two-factor authentication

TOTP codes via authenticator app, U2F/WebAuthn with a hardware token. Enabled in the webmail login. We strongly recommend 2FA — your mailbox is the master key to all your other accounts (password reset!).

Migration self-service — or assisted

Coming from GMX, Web.de, Gmail, T-Online or freenet? The mailbox backend includes a built-in IMAP migration tool: enter your credentials at the old provider, the sync runs in the background — folder structure, read status, everything 1:1. That's free in self-service. If you'd rather have us do it, we take over the complete migration as a paid option billed by effort. Contacts and calendars come over via export/import either way.

Full webmail interface

SOGo webmail, runs in the browser, works on mobile. Calendars and contacts right next to it. Filter rules, auto-reply, signature — everything where it belongs. Works even when you don't have one of your own devices at hand.

Filter rules and aliases

Create Sieve filters right in webmail — sort mail into folders automatically, auto-reply, forwarding. Plus addresses (you+amazon@postfach.re) work too — handy for spotting who passed your address on.

Also included

Even in the smallest plan. No stripped-down starter package, no artificial limits.

  • Email address under @postfach.re — you pick the left part
  • Mail in sync on iPhone, Android and desktop (IMAP) · calendars and contacts via CalDAV/CardDAV

Plain talk

What Postfach is not — and when you should switch to Mailhosting.

So it's clear where Postfach ends and when you should switch to Mailhosting:

  • ! No custom domain. You're always under @postfach.re. If you want you@your-company.com, you need Mailhosting Solo — from €1.99/month, just 50 cents more than our Pro plan.
  • ! One mailbox per account. Multiple mailboxes (family, club, team) → Mailhosting Family/Team/Club.
  • ! No catch-all, no shared calendars. Both only make sense with your own domain or multiple mailboxes — in other words: Mailhosting.
  • ! Maximum storage: 100 GB on the Power plan. Need more (ten-year archives, big attachments en masse)? Mailhosting Pro has the same 100 GB plus your own domain for €1 more.
  • ! No mass mail, no marketing blasts. Postfach is meant as a personal email address for individuals — not as a newsletter cannon. We enforce a fair server-side sending limit per hour (well above what normal personal use generates) and reserve the right to review unusual sending spikes. If you want to send newsletters or bulk mail, that's what specialized sending services are for.

Who uses this

Six typical profiles.

From the private user who finally wants out of GMX to the senior who just wants email.

Private user, done with GMX/Web.de

You're finally done with ads in your inbox and with the impression that your mail content feeds the provider's marketing. Here: no ad banners, no tracking, no AI.

Smartphone-first user

You work mostly from your phone and want mail, calendars and contacts in sync on all devices. Often a paid extra or restricted at the free mail providers. Here: included from the first cent.

Privacy switcher

On Gmail or Outlook.com today, you want out of the US ecosystem but don't want to register your own domain. @postfach.re covers exactly that case — GDPR-compliant, servers in Germany.

A first email address for your kid

You want to give your child an email address without ads and without data mining — as a start into the internet. @postfach.re is reputable, plain, no trackers.

Seniors, no frills

You just want email — no banners, no promo mails, no forced newsletters. @postfach.re does exactly one thing and does it well.

A second mailbox for sign-ups

You have a main mailbox but want a second address for online sign-ups that isn't tied to your real name. Plus addresses additionally help you track who passes your address on.

What sets us apart

You can get 99-cent email in many places. Ours works differently.

Vorteil 01

Real engineers in the ticket queue — no bot replies

Three people on the Lower Rhine, 28 years of combined hosting experience. When you write, a human answers who actually knows what IMAP, SMTP and DKIM do — no AI bot, no script.

Vorteil 02

Our own hardware in German data centers

We run our mail servers on our own hardware in Düsseldorf, Nuremberg and Falkenstein. No AWS, no big cloud, no US reach. GDPR-compliant by default.

Vorteil 03

Minimal logging as the default — not as a paid extra

What we don't have, nobody can see. Traffic logs live fleetingly in RAM. When someone demands data, there's simply nothing we can hand over — because nothing is there.

Vorteil 04

No ads, no AI, no data mining

We make money with the €0.99/month you pay — not by reading your mail or gluing ads next to your inbox. Simple business model.

Vorteil 05

A smooth upgrade path to Mailhosting

If you ever want your own domain, you switch to Mailhosting Solo. The mailbox moves with you, @postfach.re stays active as an alias alongside it. No data break, no lost mail.

Vorteil 06

30-day money-back guarantee

You pay €5.94 in advance for six months. If it's not for you: cancel informally within the first 30 days, full refund. No risk.

Setup

Your mailbox is typically ready within 24 hours.

  1. 1

    Check your address

Start the order in the customer center. Enter the address you want — e.g. firstname.lastname@postfach.re. We check availability live.

  2. 2

    Place the order

Billed every six months in advance, SEPA direct debit or bank transfer. The exact amount depends on the plan you pick (Start, Pro or Power) — you see it in the order process before submitting. No hidden setup fees.

  3. 3

Mailbox typically ready within 24 hours

Once payment is in, we review the order manually and usually set up the mailbox within 24 hours. You receive your credentials by mail to your confirmation address. First login via webmail at https://mail.xaweho.de.

  4. 4

    Connect your mail clients

Set it up on iPhone, Android, Mac, Windows, Outlook, Thunderbird — guides in the knowledge base. On Apple Mail/iOS: create an IMAP account, add calendars and contacts via CalDAV/CardDAV.

  5. 5

Optional: migrate from your old provider

Two ways: (a) You use the built-in IMAP migration tool in the mailbox backend yourself — enter your credentials at the old provider (GMX, Gmail, T-Online, freenet etc.), the sync runs in the background. That's free and covers most standard providers. (b) You let us handle the complete migration — billed by effort, with a transparent estimate up front. And if a DNS switch should ever be needed, we always assist on request.

Frequently asked questions

What do I get for €0.99/month?
An email address under @postfach.re with 10 GB of storage, in sync on all devices, calendars, contacts, tasks. Same technical base as our mail hosting — just under our domain instead of your own. If 10 GB is too small, there's Pro (25 GB) and Power (100 GB).
What's the difference between Start, Pro and Power?
Only the storage and the price — the feature set is identical. Start (10 GB / €0.99) covers most personal email addresses for many years. Pro (25 GB / €1.49) makes sense if you receive lots of pictures as attachments or keep a long archive. Power (100 GB / €2.99) is for mail collectors — every mail since 2005, every attachment, never having to delete.
How is this different from Posteo or Mailbox.org?
The concepts are similar: GDPR, servers in Germany, no ads. With us, calendar and contact sync (CalDAV/CardDAV) is included out of the box at no extra charge. And we're smaller — in return, real engineers answer your ticket instead of customer-service bots.
What does “every six months” mean? When do I pay?
You pay €5.94 (that's 6 × €0.99) in advance for six months. We bill tiny amounts in larger intervals because the bookkeeping would otherwise cost more than the margin. Within the first 30 days you can cancel informally and get everything back.
Can I switch to my own domain later?
Yes, any time. You switch to Mailhosting Solo (€1.99/month), bring your domain, and the mailbox is moved over. @postfach.re stays active as an alias — mail to the old address keeps landing in the same mailbox. No data break.
How does migration from GMX, Web.de or Gmail work?
The mailbox backend includes a built-in IMAP migration tool. You enter the credentials of your old mailbox there (best: create a temporary app password at the old provider), the sync runs automatically in the background and takes over all folders and mail 1:1 — read status, folder structure, everything. Takes one to twenty-four hours depending on the amount of data. This self-service route is free. If you'd rather have us do it: gladly — billed by effort, with a transparent estimate up front.
Can I have multiple mailboxes under @postfach.re?
No, one mailbox per account. If you need several (family, club, team), Mailhosting Family/Team/Club is the way to go — a .de domain is included there too.
What does “minimal logging” mean?
We don't log traffic data (who sent/received mail when, from where) persistently on disk. The few log lines Mailcow needs for operational processing live fleetingly in Redis/RAM and are gone as soon as they're no longer needed. Mailbox contents sit on encrypted storage, of course — those are supposed to stay. The consequence: when someone requests data, we simply can't hand over what isn't there.
What happens when the storage fills up?
You can archive old mail or back it up locally. Or switch to the next Postfach plan with one click in the customer center — Pro (25 GB) or Power (100 GB). Migration: none. The mailbox simply stays the same, just with more room.
Which mail clients work?
All of them. Apple Mail (iOS and macOS), Outlook (Windows, Mac, mobile), Thunderbird, K-9 Mail, the Gmail app (for external accounts), eM Client, Evolution, Spark — doesn't matter. We speak IMAP, SMTP and POP3. Guides for the most popular clients are in the knowledge base.
Is .re a reputable domain? It sounds exotic.
.re is the official top-level domain of Réunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean. It's been used by many providers for short domains for years (think of it as a “Re:” pun on mail replies). Technically a full-fledged TLD, deliverable worldwide, no spam stigma. We run it on our own infrastructure in Germany — physically, none of this has anything to do with Réunion.
Can I send newsletters or mass mail?
Postfach is a personal email address — not meant for newsletters, marketing campaigns or mass mail. We enforce a fair server-side sending limit per hour, well above what normal personal use generates — you'll never notice it day to day. If you want to send a newsletter to several hundred recipients, you're better off with a specialized sending service (e.g. Sendinblue, Mailjet, listmonk) — your @postfach.re address can be set as the sender there, no problem.
