What is this?
What is Synology Hosting — and when is it worth it?
Synology Hosting means: your own Synology NAS sits in a German data center with us. The hardware can come from you (Bring Your Own) or we provide it (rental). You get a private DSM instance, can install every Synology app — Drive, Photos, Surveillance Station, Office, Mail Plus — and access it from anywhere.
The most common reason for the move: home internet is slow and not symmetric. A Synology at home often has 50 Mbit upload and no UPS. With us it has 1 Gbit symmetric, UPS, emergency power and an air-conditioned rack. In everyday use you notice the difference in photo uploads and streaming to the outside.
If you don't own a Synology yet, you can also rent one from us — DS225+, DS925+ or DS1625+, all with hard drives of your choice. We've broken down renting vs. buying in a separate comparison.

Your own private DSM instance
You get admin access to your own Synology — no multi-tenant, no restrictions. All DSM features available, every App Center package installable.
SHR — flexible RAID
Synology Hybrid RAID. You can mix drives of different sizes and add a drive later — DSM expands the RAID automatically, no reformatting, no data loss.
1 Gbit shared · unlimited traffic
Every Synology sits on a shared 1 Gbit uplink, traffic is not capped. Photo uploads from your phone on the go are fast, streaming to the outside is no problem. No more capped home upload, no traffic surprise at the end of the month.
UPS and emergency power
Power outage at the data center? The UPS bridges 15 minutes, the generator kicks in and runs for days. Your Synology stays up, no data gets lost. At home you don't have that.
Synology Drive, Photos, Office
All Synology apps available. Drive for file sync, Photos for photo management, Office for documents, Calendar, Contacts, Surveillance Station, Mail Plus — the whole suite.
Hyper Backup to a second location
Optional: daily backup mirroring of your Synology to Nuremberg or Falkenstein. The 3-2-1 rule without you having to build a second NAS.
Your own IPv4 + domain
Static IPv4 address per Synology. Optionally we connect your own domain — say nas.yourname.com. No DynDNS tinkering, no CGNAT problem.
Encrypted volumes
DSM can encrypt entire volumes or individual shared folders. If the hardware gets stolen, the drives are useless — we can't look inside either.
Snapshot Replication
Daily snapshots, deduplicated. Deleted something by accident or hit by ransomware? You roll back to a snapshot from 24 hours ago, file's back.

Already own a Synology? Pick a “Bring Your Own” plan. Want to rent one from us? Go through the configurator and pick model + hard drives.

Hardware handover
For BYO: you drop off your Synology (Düsseldorf) or send it by parcel. For rental: we order the hardware once your order comes in, configure the device individually and connect it in the rack — typically 2–5 business days, depending on availability of the hard drives you picked. Either way, we hand you the credentials at the end.

Initial DSM configuration
First DSM login, set up the admin account, enable 2FA. We recommend a look at our guide for best practices.

Install apps
Synology Drive, Photos, Calendar, Contacts — whatever you need. From the Package Center, a few clicks. Set up the Synology Drive client on your devices and sync runs.

Point a domain at it (optional)
If you want your own domain pointing at your Synology (say
nas.yourname.com): set the DNS record at your registrar, generate an SSL certificate via DSM (Let's Encrypt) — all clicks inside DSM. - 6
Backup mirroring (optional)
If you want Hyper Backup mirroring to a second one of our locations: open a ticket and we set up the backup job — it runs nightly. Or run it yourself: with our Hyper Backup Storage you create the job on your own, guide in the knowledge base.

Frequently asked questions
When do I pick BYO, when rental?
BYO if you already own a Synology and just want it hosted properly. Rental if you don't own hardware and don't want to deal with any either — we buy, we maintain, we swap dead drives.
What is SHR and why not classic RAID?
SHR (Synology Hybrid RAID) lets you mix different HDD sizes and expand by one drive without reformatting. That makes later upgrades painless. SHR1 survives one drive failure, SHR2 two.
How does the HDD expansion work?
You book an additional drive, we slot it in, SHR integrates it automatically. No data migration, no reformatting.
What happens once my hardware is paid off after 2 years?
If you keep the plan, we keep the price. Existing customers pay what they've always paid. The prices shown here apply to new customers.
Can I take my BYO Synology back out?
Sure, any time. We pack it up and ship it to you. Or you pick it up in person — Düsseldorf isn't far.
