Three locations. Our own racks. Our own hardware.

We don't own a data center — we run our own hardware in other people's racks. Düsseldorf with rackSPEED, Nuremberg and Falkenstein with Hetzner. Backups mirrored across locations, 24/7 hands-on, 60-second monitoring.

Three locations

Our own racks in three places across Germany.

Düsseldorf is the main location for Synologys, Mac minis and part of the backup infrastructure. Nuremberg and Falkenstein handle web hosting, Nextcloud and the mirrors of the Düsseldorf data.

Main location & backup sink

Colocation

Hardware in our own racks at rackSPEED GmbH.

Our own racks with our own hardware. This is where the Synologys and Mac minis primarily run, plus part of our backup infrastructure — the mirrors from Nuremberg and Falkenstein land here.

What runs here

  • Synology Hosting
  • storageDRIVE
  • Mac Mini Hosting
  • Backup mirroring from Nuremberg/Falkenstein

Colocation

Hardware in our own racks at Hetzner Online GmbH.

Our own racks with our own hardware. This is where web hosting (Plesk) and Nextcloud primarily run, plus part of the backup mirroring from Düsseldorf — we rarely need to be there in person.

What runs here

  • Plesk Web Hosting / reseller / vServers
  • Nextcloud
  • Mail servers (Mailcow)
  • Backup mirroring from Düsseldorf

Colocation

Hardware in our own racks at Hetzner Online GmbH.

Our own Hetzner racks with our own hardware. Mirrors workloads from Nuremberg and takes in backups from Düsseldorf. Same story here: rarely there in person, hands-on 24/7 instead.

What we ensure 24/7

Monitoring every 60 seconds, hands on site when something breaks.

We can't be everywhere at once. But two things run around the clock — our own monitoring, and hands-on service by professionals on site in all three data centers.

60-second monitoring

xaweho's own monitoring system. Every device and every service gets checked every 60 seconds — web server response times, mail queue, DB connections, disk health, S.M.A.R.T. values, RAID status, hardware temperatures.

When something looks off, the system alerts our team — 24/7, at night and on weekends too. Most of the time we fix problems before you even notice them.

24/7 hands-on on site

Both rackSPEED in Düsseldorf and Hetzner in Nuremberg and Falkenstein offer 24/7 hands-on service. When hardware acts up, we can have people work on site without driving there ourselves.

Professionals on site fix things on our behalf — swap a drive, re-plug a network cable, hard-reboot a server. That avoids the hours of waiting a drive over from the Lower Rhine would mean.

Hardware

Which brands sit in our racks.

We use server-grade components only — no hobbyist hardware, no no-name gear. Three brands, chosen for reliability, spare-part availability and long-term support.

Synology ↗

NAS hardware

DSM is mature, the hardware stack is reliable, and the backup tools (Hyper Backup) are an industry standard. We run Synologys for Synology Hosting, storageDRIVE and our own backup infrastructure.

Supermicro ↗

Server hardware

Server-grade components with ECC RAM, IPMI/iKVM, and spare parts available for years. Our standard platform for web hosting, vServers and Nextcloud.

Asus ↗

Server hardware

A complement to Supermicro. Asus server boards deliver good performance at lower power draw — we use them for selected workloads.

Plus Mac mini hardware straight from Apple for Mac mini Hosting — the only platform on which iOS and macOS builds can run in line with Apple's licensing.

Why no data center of our own?

Running your own data center costs millions, needs redundant power, cooling and fire protection, and it isn't what we're good at. We build servers, buy hardware, run services. The data-center shell around it we leave to specialists.

That's why we have colocation with three providers: rackSPEED in Düsseldorf as the main location and Hetzner in Nuremberg and Falkenstein. The hardware in the racks is ours — we pick it, assemble it, and swap it when something breaks.

How the backup mirroring works.

Data stored in Düsseldorf gets backed up daily to Nuremberg or Falkenstein. Data stored in Nuremberg or Falkenstein goes to Düsseldorf daily — no location keeps all its eggs in one basket. That applies to Nextcloud, storageDRIVE, vServers and Mailcow.

For Proxmox Backup Server, that's your call — we offer backup mirroring as an option in case you want your backups twice.

What we run.

  • Hypervisor: Proxmox VE for KVM vServers and internal workloads
  • Storage clusters: ZFS and CEPH with NVMe SSDs and HDD pools, depending on the use case
  • Synology pool: dedicated Synology units per customer, plus a multi-tenant Synology for storageDRIVE
  • Mac mini pool: M1 and M4 generation, our own hardware, genuine Apple licenses
  • Connectivity: 1 Gbit for standard plans, 10 Gbit for backup servers
  • Power: 100% from renewable sources, at all three locations

What we don't have.

We have no cloud auto-scaling, no ready-made Kubernetes clusters to click together, no 50 regions worldwide. If you need that, the big hyperscalers or a German public cloud are a better place for you.

What we have instead: our own hardware, three German locations, a direct line to us, and monthly cancellation. For most private customers and small companies that's enough — and usually cheaper than a hyperscaler.
