Effective immediately, Euro-Office comes preinstalled in all our Nextcloud products — in Nextcloud Hosting as well as on the Nextcloud Server. You log in, open a document and start working. No setup, no extra click, no extra charge.
What Euro-Office is
Euro-Office is a sovereign office suite from Europe: edit text documents, spreadsheets and presentations right in the browser — several people at once in real time if you like, right inside your Nextcloud. No additional account, no US corporation’s cloud in between. The files live where your Nextcloud lives: on our servers in Germany.
The project is backed by a range of European providers — among them Nextcloud, IONOS, XWiki and OpenProject. The idea behind it is simple: a capable office suite that doesn’t depend on Microsoft 365 or Google Docs, and whose future development is decided in Europe.
The background: proven technology, European control
Euro-Office is not a restart from zero. Technically it builds on the
established OnlyOffice engine — the software known for years for its
exceptionally good compatibility with the Microsoft formats. .docx, .xlsx
and .pptx look the way they’re supposed to after opening, and after saving,
the person on the other end can open them in Word again without trouble. In
practice, that’s exactly where free office alternatives usually fall down.
The difference is in the governance: Euro-Office carries this codebase forward under European control and open development. For you that means nothing more than this: the strong format compatibility stays, and decisions about the software’s future are made in Europe. Those two things together are why the project is gaining so much traction right now — in 2026, digital sovereignty is no longer a niche topic but a hard requirement, especially in the public sector and for anyone who deliberately doesn’t want to hand their data to third parties.
What this means for you in practice
- Preinstalled and ready to use. Already set up in every Nextcloud plan and on every Nextcloud Server. Nothing to install, nothing to activate, nothing to configure.
- Strong Microsoft compatibility. Open and save Word, Excel and PowerPoint files without the formatting falling apart.
- Open formats, natively. ODF with no detours — no format lock-in, your documents belong to you.
- Data in Germany. Editing happens on our servers, not in someone else’s cloud.

And OnlyOffice Hosting?
Stays in the lineup, unchanged. If you need a dedicated OnlyOffice document server for your own applications, Confluence or more than 20 concurrent editors, you’ll still find it at OnlyOffice Hosting. Euro-Office in Nextcloud and a dedicated OnlyOffice server solve different problems — for most people who simply want to work on their documents in the browser, the preinstalled Euro-Office is now the shortest path.
Nothing else to do: if you already have Nextcloud with us, Euro-Office will simply be there the next time you log in.
